Failed AzureAD Process – Expired Azure Secret

Leo Comia Updated by Leo Comia

This issue occurs when the Azure Active Directory (AzureAD) sync process fails due to an expired Azure Secret. The secret must be renewed in Azure and updated in Prompt to restore functionality.

Root Cause

The AzureAD Secret is a credential that allows Prompt to access the organisation’s Azure Active Directory for services such as Email AutoComplete. Azure Secrets have an expiration date set when they are created in Azure. Once expired, Prompt can no longer authenticate, causing the sync process to fail.

Resolution Steps

Option 1 – Update by Organisation’s IT Team
  1. Log in to your Azure Portal.
  2. Go to: Azure Active Directory → App registrations → [Your Prompt Application].
  3. Under Certificates & secrets, create a New client secret.
  4. Set an appropriate expiry date (recommendation: 12–24 months).
  5. Copy the new secret value (you will only see it once).

For detailed Azure instructions, see: 🔗 Microsoft Guide – Invalid Client Secret

Option 2 – Let a Prompt Admin Update It
  1. Your IT team will still need to generate the new Azure Secret as described above.
  2. Provide the new secret securely to the Prompt Admin.

Updating the Secret in Prompt

  1. Log in to Prompt as an Admin.
  2. Navigate to: Manage Organisation → Edit Azure AD tab.
  3. Locate the Azure AD Secret field
  4. Paste the new Azure Secret.
  5. Click Submit.
